...You don't HAVE to play that mode. I already knew that, I was just voicing my opinion, to which MM answered that reassured me.

Simple: Don't do it often. Perhaps only one crippling attack or something every page or so? Since most fights are three pages long, I think one crippling attack per page would be way too much...

You've never been on Kaiju Wars, huh'? Even without regen, it's possible to win a match with nothing but a leg, torso, and your head left.

... You've never been on Kaiju Wars, huh'? Even without regen, it's possible to win a match with nothing but a leg, torso, and your head left. THAT is incredibly stupid. Fact of the matter is, The Arena is not realistic. If it was realistic, most matches would be over before the first page ended. That's no fun. The very purpose of the no bone breaking/limb removal/limb incapacitation rule is to help level the playing field, so that it is more the skill of the players that decides the outcome than the strength of the monsters. For example, in an actual fight, Rygama would utterly demolish Suchodon. However, in an Arena battle involving those two, I could quite easily hold my own, and possibly even emerge the victor.

LOL. Limb removal is NOT realistic in a battle. If a kaiju such as King Kong would lose an arm, he would not be fighting again or be able to continue the fight. That's simple logic.
Limb Removal /=/ Realistic Fighting
Even with kaiju. Bone Crushing jaws can do massive damage, and we never stated you can't do some serious damage to them, both Giga and the Bio Tyranno are ripping one another apart with them, You can do damage such as ripping off skin and muscle to the bone, but we're not going to let kaiju gain an upper-hand simply because they can rip off limbs.
In an actual fight between fan-made kaiju, that's what the Fantasy Matches are for. Kaiju can utilize everything they have in stories there, including ripping off limbs.

I thought you said somewhere that you're not allowed to break bones? Anyway, all of that is HIGHLY dependant on the creature. Yeah, if a creature like Kong lost a limb, he'd be out of it for good. But what about, say, the Oodaku? He's got eight arms, and in time they'll grow back. If he loses one in a fight but still has the potential to win, he'd keep fighting, and with very little hindrince. Shouldn't you at least be able to remove limbs from multi-limbed monsters like insects and cephalopods?

You're not, but that doesn't mean you can't do some nasty damage to an arm or a leg with a massive bite.
If someone would make a Biollante-style kaiju that has dozens of tentacles, then we would put in a statement that removal of the tentacles would be allowed. But against a kaiju like Rygama or Glorve, both whom have no more than ten tentacles.. No. You should be able to find an easy way out of that.

It just seems really unreasonable to me that you can be allowed to have a monster with huge blade arms, but if you fight a monster with long, unarmored, relatively thin limbs, you aren't allowed to use said huge blade arms to cut through them. By all means you have the ability to, and your foe could keep fighting irregardless. If the limbs aren't needed for basic melee or movement, I don't see why they can't be removed by another monster. Just my view on it.

Glorve could reattach his limbs the moment they came off, and Rygama can fly without the use of her wings, so removing tentacles is perfectly acceptable. In fact, most battles I narrate with her involve her losing a limb or two, to the point where if it makes it more fun, I'm willing to horridly maim one of my monsters to create a greater sense of ferocity in the fight.

Just my view on it. Fantasy Matches are like that. The Arena is a game. The best example I can give is the Godzilla games. Gigan should be able to cut kaiju in two with his rage, but he can't. It's unfair. Someone like Oodako couldn't just reattach his tentacles, my entire point. You want to have Rygama lose her limbs in battle, that's fine then, but this isn't a fan-story.

Oodako also wouldn't be adversly affected by loss of two or three tentacles.
And when last I checked, fan story fights are some of the most entertaining battles out there, simply because they have greater progression. A powerful weapon can be broken off, a monster can be maimed, another can pop in mid-battle, one may die while the others fight on, and most importantly, monsters can be injured through recognizeable means.
I admit, I find most of the battles here almost boring, simply because they're so repetetive. No matter how shiny the weapon is, it's gonna do a pretty predictable amount of damage. It lacks thrill.

Someone hasn't seen the movie TENTACLES..
And last I checked the Arena Matches are not part of a fan story. I'm pretty damn sure in a game like Mortal Kombat, it'd be hilariously fun to just cut the opponent's arm off in the middle of a match.. but that kinda' beats out the entire point of fighting then, doesn't it?
And I agree 100% completely, but ripping arms off in the middle of a match is not going to help that. I've been in matches at other RPGs that do it, and it is far less entertaining then this, to the point its just damn annoying trying to even fight when your kaiju is bleeding a waterfall of blood constantly, losing consciousness from lack of blood, and then actually trying to fight one-armed. That's not fun.
As for thrill, that's the reason I am TRYING to spice things up by allowing stuff like regeneration and the honor system modes, but we're not going to let people remove limbs.
You can stop arguing it or I'll just lock the topic and wait for IR's decision on the modes later tonight.

I like most of the fight types, save for the Advanced Honor Mode, or whatever it was called (too lazy to go back and look). Basically, allowing regen and such is ok, but I'm not too fond of a fight that goes on and on and on...although it would give us a better chance to test our creativity.
I say bring it on.

Saw it. Didn't much care for it. And that thing was being picked apart by half a dozen orcas at the time. In nature, octopi will willingly sacrifice arms if they need to.
Well there has got to be some sort alottable engine that at least boosts the amount of damage that can be exchanged between monsters. Most honor system RPGs I've been to allow for similar damage, provided it doesn't happen in a single move, very often, and the tide is kept even. At the very least, it's reasonable to allow players to edit their monsters' bios to point out if certain apendages are allowed to be removed in game. I'm completely aware that your typical vertibrate isn't going to keep going very well if an arm is torn off, but some creatures have enough legs, proper circulatory systems, or simply are tough enough to weather the battle and possibly win, even if something comes off.
In our match, Fenthion has sofar disabled Rygama's jaws once or twice. With regeneration allowed, that could amount to downright severing the linking muscles, and still have the same end result. There has simply got to be a way to properly allow players to inflict more damage than a few cracks in the armor, to a monster. Some way to let players consent to having such things happen in game, within a certain set of rules.
This isn't an argument. This is more of a debate, and since this topic is clearly intended to post one's thoughts on the new match types and to debate why or why not they should be used, I'd say I'm using this thread for its intended purpose just fine.
