Name: Dirge
Other names: Wendigo
Stats:
Height: 60 Meters tall
Length: 49 Meters
Weight: 63,000 Metric Tons
Powers\Abilities:
Brute Strength - Dirges brute strength should be no surprise, considering he is a giant undead Grizzly bear. His physical prowess is his main combat ability, considering his rather lackluster assortment of abilites. He has been seen swating kaiju in accsess of 80,000 tons around like flies.
Pain Threshold - Dirge has the uncanny ability to withstand intense amount of physical and psychological truma without hampering his own endurance. Naturally there is limits, however but this limit has never been met.
Physical Balance - Simply put; Dirge cannot be knocked over. Kaiju with equal strength will find that he will simply land back on his paws and press his attack.
Stealth - Dirge's body is constantly fading in and out of sight. When standing totally still, Dirge is invisible, but the more he moves the more of him comes into sight, this ability cannot be manipulated or controled and Dirge seems to be unaware of it, for the most part.
Teleportion - Dirge can "leap" into the unseen world of the undead and appear in an intirely differant location withen a 500 meter radius.
Intangibility - Dirge can mommentarily leave the physical world to easily shake opponents off of himself or to avoid projectiles. Although there is no time limit, he cannot physically touch anything while in this state.
Blizzard Fog - Dirges one and only, energy based attack. What appear to be thick, fluffy white clouds are expelled from Dirges maw. This blast of thick and dense gas will freeze against a foe on contact, leaving the flesh numb. If a foe attempts to move this limb, the frozen flesh will crack and splinter open painfully. This ability negates regeneration due to the manner in which it harms an opponent and the gas expelled from the mouth will hover around the battle field for 15 minutes before fading. Aswell, a weaker form of this gas drifts off the surface of Dirges fur, so steady contact with Dirges body will result in similar damage.
Fear Aura - Around Dirge there exists a psychokinetic field that causes natural animals to expierance the physical side-effects of shock. Trembling, increased heart rate, a lowered self-esteem and a steady chill running up their spine. Maintained presence withen this field will cause increased effects over time. This has no effect on Mechs, however, it may be a differant story if they have a pilot.
Curse Of The Wendigo - Dirges' signature and most potent ability. This is a supernatural toxic solution that is secreted from the mouth of any creature infected by a Wendigo. Physical side effects are a massive swelling of the muscular system, dangerous boost in adreneline levels, numbness of the extremities (all these combine for a feeling of invincibility in some) iregular heart rate, rapid diliation of the pupils and an unsatiable feeling of intense hunger. Mental side effects are hallucinations which will depend on the intelligence of the effected mind; IE an unintelligent/animal mind will find hallucinations involving the surrounding enviroment (objects moving, the feeling of sentience in inanimate objects) while an intelligent/more "human mind" will see things from their deep subconsious, fears, enemies, allies, etc.
On a more mystical level, creatures of an evil/good nature will find a slighty differant effect. Evil kaiju will feel intense pain and mental anguish in combination of the above symtoms. Good kaiju will gradually be driven to states of intense and violent rage, although these effects will vary depending on the intelligence of the kaiju.
Origin/History:
The Wendigo is a beast of notorious legend amoungst the native americans. Feared by the bravest warriors, it kept these people in a grip of terror for hundreds of years. The Wendigo is a demon of the forest, a cannibal spirit that brings out the evil intentions of men and beast. But there is a very rare and obscure story amoungst the Mooncrow tribe that has been passed down by only word of mouth...but the Mooncrow tribe and their beliefs and systems died out years ago and this legend died with it. Until the diary of Cornelas Alabaster was found. A british journalist who was saved by the Mooncrow. He stayed with them for almost a decade, keeping records of what he saw. But when the Mooncrow found out, his notes were destroyed by the outraged young men and he was scalped. But the elders, seeing their people slowly fade and assimlate into larger tribes, were able to save a few of the books. They hid them, so future generations may know of their people.
This is one of many campfire stories. It deals with the fall of the Wendigo and his evil.
Years ago, a lone Bear was wandering through the forests in search of food, when he stumbled upon the Wendigo with a young child in its grasp. It is unknown what motivated the Bear to save the child, but it pounced upon the Wendigo, taking it by surprise and the child was able to run to the safety of the camp fire. The Wendigo and the Bear fought visicously, but the Wendigo is a spirit who is endurance is like a thousand warriors; unable to ever tire. The Bear was bit by the Wendigo and was thus, passed on the curse.
But the strength of the bear is great. The curse takes over man, the curse can take over the tricky fox, the sly coyote or the noble wolf. But the will of the Bear is to great. The Bear lived in pain for 18 days and nights as his body changed. He grew larger, stronger, but his soul was currupt and black as the wings of a raven. But even amoungst this blackend evil, the pure heart rages as intense as a fire.
This new beast called a challenge to fight the Wendigo, to kill him. The Wendigo answered and their battle raged all over "Canada", the colliding bodies created the bay of fundy to the east and the island to the west. This battle lasted for a whole 12 years, with endless endurance matching endless endurance. But the will of the Bear is an unbreakable strength and the will of the Wendigo is like a twig in comparison. When the will of the Wendigo broke, he broke with it. The wave of terror left by the Wendigo had ceased and all that was left was the Bear. He feared his own soul, so he retreated far, far into the forzen Northes until he was able to get over the curruption, but vowed to protect the people.
Upon hearing this story, a great howl echoed through the forests. 'Twas not a wolf, it seems. Far to deep, like a drum. No, there was no identifacation for this animal noise, but it was indeed a mournful sound, filled with pain, torment and anger. Upon hearing this, I commented that it sounded like a funural Dirge. They looked at me with confused eyes, all except the Story-teller, who starred into the fire and repeated my last word.
