Quite sadly, Sage is screwed from the get go.
He can't slow down Magmire, and he can't do any lasting damage to him. Almost all of Sage's abilities are rendered ineffective by Magmire's heat, physical structure, or both. The sap might have some effect, but not enough to undo Magmire.
The only way this could have been worsely overkill, is if Sage was vulnerable to fire, which he thankfully is not.
While I won't cast a vote (at least not yet), I'm rather certain that Magmire will win.
Edit: Aw geez... and Sage doesn't have a regen while Magmire does... Can Sage's situation get any worse?
Edit 2: Well, if Monster Master says Sage can't win, we don't really need to wait for OR to come and make debates, 'cause there's nothing too debate.

F*cking A, again. Damn you, OR. First Glorve, and now Sage. You're never happy are you?
Sage is designed specifically to take down organic kaiju. Magmire isn't organic and can't suffer from ANY of Sage's poisons, smells, or attacks.

Man, I'm sorry MM. I really wish it hadn't come to stuff like this.
However, there is absolutely nothing Sage can do, as he's designed for anti-organic warfare, and Magmire is mostly inorganic, with a largely inaccessable core. Also, fire isn't Sage's best friend, so...
Magmire FTW

Magmire ftw. There's nothing Sage can do to Magmire. Magmire will roast sage and burn him to a crisp.

As with Shroom, Magmire is the number one counter to plant kaiju. Inorganic + fire = roasted shrooms.

Another fight that doesn't need my vote, but gets it anyways cause I need to.
Magmire. Roasted Sage, anyone?

Yeah, Sage's fighting capability is drastically reduced against inorganic opponents to begin with, and coupled with the fact that Magmire is a lava monster of all things, Sage is screwed.
