It's just a little something I've been tinkering with.
I've been working on an RPG concept for an alternate future America, where the gameplay is more of the sandbox variety than my previous efforts, and a lot more open ended as far as character creation goes.
The idea is that the Civil War, although ended, did not fully put an end to some of the dissension between states. Things go ok for a bit until the end of WWI and the start of the Depression, in which tension mount and a second Civil War, albeit less bloody and more political, takes place at the start of WWII. This prevents the US from getting involved in the conflict as Hitler's forces steamroll over Europe. Alternate reality Hitler, however, stops his advance with Europe and doesn't attack Russia.
Meanwhile, the US is officially broken down into the Allied States, a conglomeration of the 48 continental states with an extremely weak central government. Each state effectively becomes it's own mini-nation, although the threat of war is kept at bay by some degree of cooperation. Fast forward to the modern day, where America still exists (as the ASA), and Europe is still facist, Communism has spread, and a Cold War like state has engulfed pretty much the whole world.
Each of the states has it's own unique settup with differing laws and such, which is where the player comes in.
As a player, you can create up to 5 PCs and various NPCs for other players to interact with as they explore and try to survive this dystopian world. Stats are pretty much done away with, and only Feats and Skills remain, which cover a wide range of your characters abilities. You inventory is open-ended as well, as you can start a character with pretty much anything you want, provided of course, that it would be feasible to have such a thing (a hobo can't have a million dollars for example).
After that, it's pretty much up to the players to do whatever they want, although there may be some scripted story elements that take place.
Would anyone here be interested in something like this? If so, I'd like to know so I can get to work on it.
