Argus vs Gorgon
Arena: Partially Destroyed City
Rules: None
Smoke rose from smoldering fires in the remains of the once great city. A few tall buildings reminded Argus of what had once been here, in this place that now only housed death. However, the usual signs of human habitation were absent. There were no cars in the streets, no bodies crushed by giant beasts, no signs of anything that indicated human presence. It was all very odd to the Colossus. He had been sent to this world by means unknown, and his connection with Dormin was broken. He could not even seem to find his other brothers or sisters. He was alone, or so he thought.
A shrill and piercing cry broke the relative silence of this graveyard. From the clouds overhead, a massive serpentine shape appeared, bellowing to the ghosts below him. Gorgon had also been brought to this world, and was increasingly disappointed with the lack of prey here. In fact, he was disappointed that nothing seemed to exist in this world. He dropped low over the city and coiled around one of the few remaining structures, using it as a stationary lookout position to survey his new territory.
Argus saw all this, and arrived to his own conclusions. He had been sent here for a purpose it seemed. This creature was more than likely responsible for the devastation that surrounded him now, and it would pay for its wanton destruction of men. Argus stepped from behind the shadow in which he was concealed, and moved in as stealthily as he could against this new foe. But his very footsteps shook the earth, and Gorgon was on high alert. But nothing could have prepared him for the whistling shriek as Argus threw his cleaver; missing Gorgon’s coiled body by mere inches, before embedding itself in the building around which the serpent coiled. Gorgon roared in surprise as he flapped his wings, taking to the skies in a panic. Argus roared and charged, snatching his cleaver from the building and zoning in on Gorgon.
With the safety of the skies to protect him, Gorgon got a good look at his new foe. A kaiju by all means, and probably edible too. He could spit out the rocky parts later. Right now, it was time to soften his food up first…maybe have a little fun with it too. He roared as he looped and dived, coming right at Argus. The Colossus stood his ground, cleaver held before him in preparation to parry. But Gorgon pulled up from his dive, sending his spike tail crashing into Argus’ face at high speeds. The Colossus roared as he staggered back from the blow, black blood oozing from the wound on his face. His stony armor had withstood the blow, mostly, and the damage was minimal. But it was enough to anger the Colossus. Gorgon wheeled about, ready to strike again. But Argus would be ready.
Gorgon opened his maw and loosed a brilliant blast of amethyst energy. Argus dodged aside, but the blast caught the side of a building and exploded. Argus could feel the fingers of his free hand stiffening, as though paralyzed, and realized that he would need to be much more careful if he wished to defeat this foe. Gorgon wheeled in low in his search for Argus, but the Colossus would not show himself. Gorgon rose again and prepared to make another circle, when Argus’ cleaver struck him in the flank. Gorgon shrieked as the force of the blow propelled him sideways into the ruins of a once great structure, and only barely had time to register the hunk of stone sticking out of his flank, when Argus was upon him, smashing into the serpent’s head with his meaty, well armored fists. The paralysis effects were only temporary it seemed, and the Colossus was afforded the full use of both hands. Gorgon shrieked in pain as the Colossus hammered away at his prey, but refused to go down easily.
The serpent lashed out, catching Argus in the shoulder by surprise. The Colossus moaned as the fangs sunk into his flesh, pumping his system full of a potent neurotoxin. He could feel his ancient muscles seizing up, slowly, but assuredly. He could not afford to keep in close quarters for long it seemed. He gripped Gorgon’s head, even as the flying snake curled around his body, and began to pry the jaws loose. Gorgon shrieked as the strength of the stone titan forced his jaws apart, and quickly withdrew as Argus bellowed in defiance. Another blast of brilliant purple energy erupted from Gorgon’s maw, this time striking Argus in the left flank. The Colossus moaned as his form stiffened, knowing all too well a counter-attack was inevitable. But Gorgon surprised him by taking to the skies, cackling as he rose above the charred ruins of the city.
Argus tried to turn himself around, but his movements were still slow and clunky, and all he succeeded in doing was receiving a club to the face, compliments of a flyby from Gorgon. The serpentine monster wheeled around again, as Argus’ body slowly thawed out, and was preparing to fire another blast of energy, when the Colossus made a titanic effort and leapt aside, throwing his body behind cover as the blast passed harmlessly overhead. Gorgon hissed in fury as he dove after his prey, but Argus was nowhere to be seen. He moved quickly for such a large creature. The airborne monster was about to rise up for another pass, when something struck him from behind. He howled in surprise as Argus tackled him from behind, driving the writhing serpent to the ground. Gorgon outweighed Argus by quite a bit, but his mass was a detriment now, as he had trouble taking off with the extra weight. Argus raised his cleaver high and smashed it into Gorgon’s spine, inviting a jet of arterial blood that stained the giant’s face. Gorgon bucked in pain, sending his spiny back right into Argus’ face. The Colossus reeled as the poison set to work, seeming to set his skin aflame, as the burning sensation spread. He clutched at his face, as Gorgon bucked again, this time toppling his opponent over before taking back to the skies.
Head on assaults seemed largely out of the question now. Argus had something of an advantage over him in that field, as even Gorgon’s serpentine form seemed no match for the brute strength of this ancient titan. He hissed as he circled high above the clouds, thinking up a new plan. Below him, Argus waited in the shadows, grumbling as the catastrophic venom worked its deadly magic. He couldn’t go forever, and in a war of attrition, Gorgon had the advantage. He needed to somehow lure the monster back down, where he could fight him on his own terms. But he didn’t have to wait. Gorgon descended, screaming from the skies, as he launched a volley of amethyst spheres, hoping to draw Argus out. And it worked too. Argus made his move, ready to strike when the massive snake came close. But Gorgon had his own plans, and swiftly banked to the side when Argus made his appearance. The Colossus pursued him, but realized his mistake all too late. Gorgon smashed his tail into the side of a pair of skyscrapers, sending them toppling on top of the charging Argus. The titan roared as he was buried alive under thousands of tons of rubble, while Gorgon circled, screeching in victory.
Argus groaned with the additional weight, as the rubble shifted, revealing his own stony form. The buildings were dangerous, but not fatal, to his body. He groaned as he dug himself free from the ruins, barely catching sight of Gorgon as the flying snake disappeared into the clouds overhead. But Argus had an advantage that Gorgon was unprepared for. Even in this realm, he could manipulate the weather to a small degree, as the clouds parted, revealing the circling form of Gorgon. The serpent shrieked in surprise as his cover seemingly evaporated, and Argus struck with his full fury, throwing his cleaver with deadly accuracy and precision. Gorgon’s flank was torn open as the stone weapon smashed through his armored scales, leaving a bleeding wound as the cleaver plummeted back to earth. Gorgon turned on Argus and dove, ready to strike back in retaliation. The Colossus stood his ground though, knowing full well his cleaver was out of range.
Gorgon’s maw opened wide, fangs bared, when a ray of light shot from the heavens, striking the sinuous reptile full in the face. Gorgon pulled up, blinded by the light, and Argus seized his chance. He leapt forward, crashing into Gorgon and pinning the throat of his foe against the side of a building, while he pummeled at the exposed belly with his free hand. Gorgon writhed and squirmed, striving in vain to escape, but the titan would have nothing of the sort. His stony fists mashed repeatedly into the softer underbelly of his foe, as Gorgon coughed up blood from the beating he was receiving. He tail coiled around and gripped Argus by the leg, before yanking it out from under its owner. Argus was lifted skyward before being tossed bodily, smashing through another building as he went. Gorgon coughed weakly, spitting up more blood, before slithering over towards the fallen Argus. He struck…once, twice, three times, each time filling the form of his enemy with potent venom. Argus could feel his body seizing up again, as the venom took effect. His own mystical nature helped protect him some, but the end results were all the same. However, he had a hidden weapon.
As Gorgon reared up again, he lashed an arm out, albeit with some difficulty, as the serpent snapped his jaws shut on the stone of his cleaver, which he had landed near. The venom oozed down the cracked surface of the weapon, steaming with its own acidic compounds. Argus managed to deflect the blow, and Gorgon was more than content to relent, letting his venom take its effect. He beat his wings and returned to the skies, cackling in glee as he went. Argus staggered to his feet, his body fighting off the burning pain that filled it for the moment. He had a chance to end this. Just one solid blow and it would be all over. But he had to get Gorgon down again. And as luck would have it, the sinister nature of his foe would aid him once again. Gorgon shrieked as he fired another blast of purple energy. Argus shielded himself behind the ruins of a skyscraper, although the explosion destroyed most of his defense. He had one shot at this, and he took it, as he flung himself out into the open, knowing that Gorgon couldn’t resist one more shot at his foe.
The serpent wheeled about and dove, launching an amethyst blast as he went. But the Colossus wasn't stupid. he had anticipated as much, and he ducked, the blast passing where hsi head had been moments before. Gorgon shrieked as he tried to pull up, but it was too late. Argus sprang from his crouch, a feat requiring every last ounce of power his legs could afford, and tackled Gorgon, driving the two to the pavement below. Gorgon writhed and twisted as Argus smashed his cleaver down again and again, each time with more of the serpent's blood coating his tool. Gorgon's struggles slacked, and soon, the limp body of the monster lay pinned beneath Argus, his torso crushed and battered by the stony instrument.
Argus stood, slowly and wearily, as the light above shone down on him in victory. He left the bloody corpse in his wake, as he left the ruins, seeking out his brothers and sisters, hoping to find something familiar.
