Carcharius vs Scython
Arena: Barrier Reef
Rules: None
This world was devoid of life. That much Scython was sure of. He had found himself here in the midst of draining a colony of giant insects, much to his displeasure. There was still more mana to be drained from the weaklings. His initial searches of the island and coral reef revealed there to be no life other than himself, the trees, and the coral, and they did not provide any sort of nourishment. He was alone, or so it would seem.
The deep waters off the coast of the island provided refuge for another killer, one who’s DNA was probably as ancient as Scython himself. Black, soulless eyes watched hungrily as Scython waded through the shallows, gauging with what little intelligence he possessed, the likelihood that he could feast. Carcharius, the shark hybrid, had also found himself stranded in this new world in the midst of feasting, and like Scython, he too was in an unpleasant mood. But soon, his own insatiable hunger overcame any sort of prudence, as he swam for shore, picking up speed in preparation to strike. Scython seemed oblivious to his appearance, which would allow the ambush predator to dominate early.
But Scython got lucky. He heard Carcharius approaching, and wheeled about, just in time to watch the mutant burst from the water, like a missile from Hell, and head right for him. Reacting purely on instinct, Scython sidestepped and swatted the mutation with a fierce backhand, driving Carcharius into the treeline. The mammoth amphibian crashed through the trees, tearing a swathe of destruction, before coming to a stop, uninjured, but pissed off. Scython roared in hunger, Carcharius answering in likeness, as the two combatants charged one another, fangs and claws bared.
Scython’s first strike missed by a hair as Carcharius brought his claws into play, driving them into Scython’s belly. The mana vampire hissed in fury as the claws shredded his flesh with ease, leaving a trio of ragged slashes in his flesh. Carcharius pressed the early advantage, letting the flow of blood intoxicate him. His jaws opened wide as he lunged forward, but Scython was waiting for him. The alien entity delivered a nasty uppercut, sending Carcharius reeling, before whipping his tail around, letting the serrated appendage slice across the belly of Carcharius. The mutation roared in a combination of pain and anger, as Scython pressed in. He clamped his jaws down on one of Carcharius’ outstretched arms, and began to feed.
The mutation could feel his strength ebbing as Scython drained his mana, or life energies. As he moved to retaliate, Scython disengaged and backed off, satisfied for the moment with the energy he had obtained. There was no sense in risking his life for a few more drops of precious mana. Carcharius lunged forward again, as the two grappled, each held just out of reach of the other’s snapping jaws. The sand beneath them churned as Scyhton’s superior strength allowed him to start shoving Carcharius back through the trees, crushing them to splinters beneath their taloned feet. Suddenly, Carcharius relaxed his grip, one of the few smart things he had ever been able to do, as Sython was forced forward by his own momentum, giving the shark time to bite. And bite he did. His triple row of fangs slammed shut around Scython’s neck, as a thick, viscous fluid pumped between his fangs, directly into Scython’s alien bloodstream. The alien howled in agony as he tried to pry the amphibian loose, but Carcharius’ bite force was one of the strongest in the world, and he held tight. Blood flowed freely from the wound, although perhaps not as much as Carcharius would like.
Scython roared in agony before driving an elbow into Carcharius’ gut, winding the beast before a follow-up slash from the other arm drove him away. Carcharius backed away, a trio of bright red gashes standing out across the left side of his face. Blood dripped from these new wounds, true, but Scython noted that the previous wounds on his belly had healed over, leaving only thin scars to point out that they had ever been there. Carcharius had a potent form of regeneration that allowed such relatively minor wounds to heal rapidly. Such was an advantage in the current fight, as Scython had nothing to match it.
Meanwhile, Scython’s neck bled profusely, as the ring of ragged bite marks on his throat did not stop bleeding. The anti-coagulant that Carcharius had pumped into him was hampering his own natural healing, and the scent of so much blood was intoxicating to the shark, driving it wild with hunger. Scython, however, put the pain out of his mind as Carcharius advanced again, fangs and talons bared. The alien entity roared as he deftly avoided another downstroke from his nemesis, before driving forward with his own talons, each one penetrating into the flesh of Carcharius’ pectorals. With a grunt, he lifted the mutation overhead, using his own superior strength to do so, and threw him bodily across the beach and into the shallows, where the shark landed with a tremendous splash.
Scython advanced again, ready to destroy his foe and sap him of his life force. He pursued Carcharius into deeper waters, unmindful of such, as he had no need to breath. But therein lay his greatest mistake. Once they reached a sufficient depth, Carcharius wheeled about, gills having appeared from small slits in his neck. His move caught Scython off guard, as Carcharius whipped his tail blade across Scython’s face, drawing forth another streamer of blood. The waters around them were stained crimson, as Scython advanced again, lunging through the water, almost in slow motion, before clamping his jaws down once again onto Carcharius’ arm. The shark could feel the energy leaving him, and tried to fend him off, but Scython was relentless. He fended off each assault with his own claws, before finally withdrawing, leaving Carcharius to drift listlessly in the waves.
The mutation’s regeneration was hampered by this loss of energy, and the wounds on his face and arm were healing, but much slower than usual. He needed to feed, and he could feel that need clawing away at his insides like a wild animal.
Scython, meanwhile, had retreated back on shore, where he had no disadvantages against the shark. It was clear that the water was his home turf, and trifling with him there was a mistake, one he did not intend to repeat. Carcharius came out presently, his wounds slowly healing over and no longer bleeding, but still tender. However, his instinctual hunger and super-aggressiveness forced him back into confrontation with the waiting Scython. Scython roared as ghostly green energy coated his talons. The two charged at one another, Scython landing the first hit. His talons scored two direct hits across Carcharius’ wounded chest, flaying open the flesh like a tender fish cutlet. The mana enhanced cutting powers of his claws dealt tremendous damage to the shark, who retaliated in spite of the pain, by driving his tail blade around and up, into Scython’s gut.
The alien howled in agony as the massive blade dug into the flesh of his body, not piercing anything particularly vital, as he seemed to lack those organs and the like, but causing tremendous pain all the same. Carchrius roared in fury as he lashed his tail like a whip, sending Scython flying back, before whipping back around and pouncing on the downed beast. Scython howled in agony as Carcharius landed on top of him, one hand pinning his left arm to the ground, the other pinning his head back to keep his jaws from being brought into play. The shark then slammed his fangs down on Scython’s other shoulder, rending flesh and pumping in anti-coagulant at the same time. The bleeding wounds on Carcharius’ chest dripped freely onto Scython’s, as the mutation savaged the alien’s shoulder.
With the sound of tearing flesh, and a scream of agony from Scython, Carcharius ripped free a hunk of flesh from Scython’s shoulder, before swallowing the ragged hunk whole. Blood flowed in rivers from the wound, the scent finally pushing Carcharius over the brink. Massive amounts of hormones flooded his system, doubling his strength and ferocity in addition to shutting down his pain receptors. Scython lashed out with his other arm, using his own strength to topple Carcharius, temporarily freeing himself. His good arm quivered in rage, while the damaged one hung limply at his side, usable, perhaps, but considerably worse for the wear.
He bellowed in rage and pain simultaneously as he charged Carchrius, before seizing his adversary by the throat and hoisting him into the air with one hand. Carcharius struggled mightily, his talons digging into Scython’s arm, but the alien paid no heed. He brought his catch down again, hard. Carcharius crashed to the bloody sands, before being hosited bodily…and brought down again…and again, and again, until his struggles weakened, more from the probable concussion than any amount of pain or blood loss. Scython tossed his catch further away, using the time to come up with a new method of attack. If Carcharius had a ranged attack, he had not displayed it. So perhaps it was time to finish his foe off. Carcharius began to right himself further down the beach, when he noticed green tendrils of energy gathering in Scython’s maw. That could only mean one thing, and even Carcharius knew what it meant. He tried to stand and make for the water, but it was too late. The beam lanced forth, luminous green energy striking Carcharius in the flank, before exploding, tearing loose a chunk of flesh and scorching the entire area with his own life force.
Carcharius bellowed in frustration, as he did not even feel that attack, but the damage still took its toll on him. He wheeled around and advanced again, churning the sands beneath his powerful feet, before slamming into Scython, driving the two of them to the ground. Carcharius once again latched on to Scython’s throat, using his talons to shred the flesh of his nemesis’ belly. Scython, meanwhile, also latched on to his enemy’s throat, and began to feed, using his talons to rend the flesh of his foe. The two were caught in a death lock, and only one could emerge victorious. Scython feasted on his opponent’s life energy, while his opponent feasted on his life blood. For one, this was the end.
But the lock was short lived. Carcharius' bite force slacked, then loosened altogether, as Scython fed on his life energies. Soon, his muscles collapsed as his form shriveled into a dessicated husk of its former self. Scython roared in victory as he drained the last vestiges of life from this nemesis, not even pausing a moment to refelct on the battle. His wounds were still great, but they would heal in time. Now, with his hunger sated, he disappeared beneath the waves in search of hsi next potential vicitim.
