I'm the kind of guy who likes to go around punching "If it flies, it wins" and "The winner is always the one with more beams" people in the face. However, there's no denying that Riptide's strategy and powers prey on Glorve's primary weakness. While Glorve's acid body initially seems ideal for melting Riptide's armor and innards, the problem lies in that he's not likely to be able to bring enough of that body up into the air to greet Riptide. meanwhile, Riptide has a superb shot at Glorve with his heat based weapons.
If Glorve were smarter, I'd give him a chance. There's a very good opportunity to hide among the cracks and alleys of the city and lash out at Riptide when he descends to search for him.
Problem is, glorve is just a mindless microbe colony(a little mental research dictates that I was right about that, MM. Single-celluar beings have visible organelles. The blob didn't. Also, in order for a cell to divide, it has to go through the complex process of duplicating each of its organelles and shoving them to different sides of its body. You knock off a piece of the blob, that piece takes on a life of its own. Only multicelluar creatures can do that. This, and the blob would've had a nucleus if it were a single cell.). He probably won't think to do that, which ultimately seals his doom.

^...while Riptide could stay in the sky and rain down NOVA stuff, doesn't Glorve have several projectile weapons? The globs could very well eat a good hole through Riptide, and I'd like to see him avoid the rain...of course, he'd survive it and get even more trigger-happy, but...

Riptide can take this one. He's one of the few monsters MM has openly admited to being able to take Glorve. Riptide's got a lot fo firepower and he isn't shy about using it. And if he uses those missiles to splatter Glorve, it just makes for more surface area to vaporize.
Glorve's projectiles are potetially dangerous, but I'm confident Riptide can outlast them and vaporize the uber blob.
